On Friday, September 6, 2024, the WG Karlsruhe competed with four athletes at the adh-Open Chess in Marburg. The competition was played over six rounds in 15 + 5 mode in the form of a rapid chess tournament.
The firm favorite was the only grandmaster Hagen Poetsch, who surprisingly took part. Our chess player Jonathan was allowed to play against him in the second round, but unfortunately, like all his opponents that day, without success. Nevertheless, it was a formative and exciting experience for Jonathan, who scored 3 out of 6 points.
Jonas, Leonard and Aloïs also played a good tournament and scored 2.5, 2 and 3.5 out of 6 points, after Jonas and Aloïs surprisingly had to play against each other in the last round.
Overall, the tournament was very well organized and ran smoothly. All tournament participants had agreed to shorten the breaks between rounds as much as possible, so the tournament ended a little earlier than planned. This allowed the chess players to take in the beautiful city of Marburg afterwards before heading home to Karlsruhe.
