adh-Open Fistball 2024 title stays in Karlsruhe

  • Datum: 17.09.2024
  • Last weekend, the adh-Open Fistball took place at TSV Rintheim in Karlsruhe. In a thrilling final between the two Karlsruhe teams, Karlsruhe 1 narrowly won 2:1 (7:11, 13:11, 12:10) against Karlsruhe 2. Third place went to the team from Darmstadt, followed by the team from Essen.

The event started with a WOW-Ball tournament on Friday evening, in which the participants who had already arrived were drawn into teams of two. WOW-Ball is a new form of fistball and is played in smaller teams on a smaller field. Six teams battled it out in changing weather conditions. The team of two players from Karlsruhe, Dennis Happle and Matthias Handtmann, came out on top against a Darmstadt/Karlsruhe team and another team from Karlsruhe.

The actual adh-Open started on Saturday with a group phase in which the four teams from Karlsruhe, Darmstadt and Essen competed against each other. The group phase was played in two sets and the aim was to achieve an optimal starting position for the semi-finals. The Karlsruhe 2 team won the group phase with 5:1 points ahead of the Darmstadt team with 4:2 points. Karlsruhe 1 took third place with 3:3 points and Essen fourth place with 0:6 points.

Karlsruhe 1 and Darmstadt therefore met in the first semi-final. The two teams had drawn in the group stage. In a tight first set, the hosts prevailed 11:9 and secured their place in the final with an 11:5 win in the second set. In the second semi-final, Karlsruhe 2 beat Essen 2:0 (11:7, 11:6). Karlsruhe 2 also made it through to the final, losing just one set in the entire tournament.

In the following match for third place, Darmstadt beat Essen 2:0 (11:7, 11:6). The tournament ended in the final as it had begun. Both Karlsruhe teams faced each other. In the first set, as in the group match, everything seemed to be going in KA 2's favor. The team led by Alisa Becker won the first set 11:7 in a relaxed and confident manner. After the change of ends, however, Karlsruhe 1 got off to the better start and extended its lead to 9:5. Team KA2 fought back again and forced an interim 11:11, but could not be rewarded for their good performance and so the second set went to Team KA1 with 13:11. The match now went to a deciding set in which neither team was really able to pull away. KA1 led 6:5 at the change of ends and even extended the lead to 10:8. Karlsruhe 2 fought back again and managed to equalize once more. However, as in the second set, the team led by center Julius Zolg managed to keep a cool head at the crucial moment. With 12:10 points, the third set and thus the final of the adh-Open Fistball went to the host Karlsruhe 1. Karlsruhe 1 thus took first place in the adh-Open Fistball 2024, followed by Karlsruhe 2 in second place. Third place went to Darmstadt, followed by Essen in fourth place.

After the award ceremony, the teams continued to play against each other in mixed teams across universities and spent a nice evening together on the club grounds of TSV Rintheim.
