This year's European University Championships in rowing were held on Lake Jarun in Zagreb from 28.08. to 01.09.2024. The Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) was represented by Adrian Mengedoht, who competed in the lightweight single sculls (LM 1x) over the 2000m competition distance.
The starting signal for his preliminary heat was given punctually at 14:30 on August 29. After Adrian Mengedoht was still in fourth place at the start of the race, he managed to gradually overtake his Hungarian and Dutch rivals and close in on the leading rower from Poland. With second place in the heats, Adrian Mengedoht qualified for the final directly and without any detours.
On the final day, August 31, the final of the men's lightweight single sculls started as the first final race of the afternoon block in almost perfect conditions with mirror-smooth water on Lake Jarun. Adrian Mengedoht managed to row to the finish line in fourth place. Even though he was unable to achieve a medal position, he was very satisfied with his performance and paid tribute to the achievements of the medal winners in this highly competitive boat class.
The high importance of this year's EUC for the hosts was also reflected in the active presence and support of the event by three-time Olympic champion and partner of the event Martin Sincović, three-time Olympic medal winner Damir Martin at the opening ceremony and the participation of this year's Paris Olympians Patrik and Anton Lončarić in the eight of the University of Zagreb.
In addition to the organizers of the EUC, special thanks go to the KIT University Sports team, which made participation in this year's European University Championships possible, as well as the sponsor of the Karlsruhe THOST University Rowing Club and the cooperation partner, the Karlsruhe Rowing Club Wiking von 1879 e.V.
