The KIT sports hall was filled with enthusiastic spectators and high tension on November 9, 2023. The KIT university badminton team - consisting of Iva Andreeva and Ronja Latz, as well as Mathis Alt, Janis Machauer and Fabian Schlenga - battled against competitors from the universities in Cologne and Bonn to qualify for the Final Four at the 2024 German University Championships.

After a clear 5:0 victory against the team from Cologne, it was now up to the students from Karlsruhe to oppose the team from Bonn, who had won 4:1 against Cologne.

Bonn took a narrow lead in the doubles disciplines in heated matches, which was eased by Fabian Schlenga's commanding singles victory for Karlsruhe. However, Karlsruhe also had to concede the women's singles to Bonn, meaning that an exciting match ultimately ended with a 3:2 victory for Bonn against Karlsruhe. The Karlsruhe team will now have to return the favor and beat Bonn in next year's qualifying round.
