The competition team from the Karlsruhe universities secured the title at the DHM in indoor volleyball on the weekend of June 24/25, 2023. The Karlsruhe team first beat teams from south-west Germany in the preliminary round at home on May 5, qualifying for the final round in Mainz. However, the volleyball team had to make do without a number of players with limited budgets for the final round matches. They had to improvise at the reception position in particular. As a result, there were still some uncertainties in the Karlsruhe team's game structure on the first match day. Nonetheless, they were able to advance to the final in the preliminary round. Only last year's winners Uni Rostock, who also qualified for the final, proved to be too strong on the day. With the will to win the ticket for the European University Games in the following year, the fan cities played courageously in the final. The Karlsruhe volleyball players mastered the challenge of having to play in unfamiliar positions with flying colors and were able to successfully take revenge for their loss in the preliminary round. The final was ultimately won 2:1 and the team was crowned German university champions.
