DHM Apparatus Gymnastics 2023 in Karlsruhe a complete success

The German University Gymnastics Championships took place in Karlsruhe on May 19 and 20. As in previous years, the DHM competitions were held on Friday. This year, 16 teams from various universities and colleges were entered in the men's competition, as well as several individual competitors. In the women's competition, 17 teams and several individual competitors took part. Exercises of the highest standard were performed in three rounds, delighting the large audience. This year, WG Augsburg won the title of German university champions for the men with 212.900 points, with WG Munich coming in second with 211.00 points. Third place went to WG Stuttgart with 208.950 points. In the women's competition, WG München successfully defended their title with a team score of 135.150. The runners-up title went to WG Hannover with a team score of 132.850. 3rd place went to WG Karlsruhe with 131.300 points. Former Olympian Philipp Herder from HU Berlin won the individual German University Championships male title with a total score of 76.750, while Maximilian Henning from the University of Regensburg was runner-up with a score of 74.100. Erik Mihan from the University of Potsdam took third place with a total score of 72.350. In the women's individual competition, the title of German university champion went to Natalie Wolfgang from the WG Ulm with a total score of 47.700. Second place went to Alessa Wirth from the WG Munich with 46.150 and third place went to Finja Säfken, who competed as an individual for the HU Berlin, with a score of 45.350.
The adh Cup competitions took place on Saturday. The difference to the DHM competitions lies in the lower requirements, although no less remarkable exercises were presented to the audience. In the male adh Cup, WG Munich took home the title with a team score of 218.850. WG Karlsruhe secured 2nd place with a score of 210.100, while WG Mannheim took 3rd place with a score of 200.450.
In the adh Cup female team competition, the title went to WG Munich with 148.750. WG Bayreuth took second place with 147.200 and third place went to the University of Marburg with 144.900.
A highlight of the event was the apparatus finals on Saturday evening, in which the title of German University Champion on the respective apparatus was contested. Outstanding performances in the DHM competition meant that the gymnasts with the highest scores on their favorite apparatus were able to qualify for the respective finals. Just how high-class the competition was was demonstrated by the former national gymnast and Olympian Philipp Herder and Ivan Rittschick, who represents KTV Straubenhardt in the 1st Bundesliga and has already impressed at international level. Several gymnasts from the 2nd Bundesliga were also represented in the apparatus finals. This year, Moritz Braig from WG München, who normally competes in the 2nd Bundesliga, secured the title of German University Champion on floor with a score of 13.400. Runner-up with 13.300 was Philipp Herder from HU Berlin, third place was secured by Shimon Aoki, individual starter for Heidelberg University and also a gymnast in the 2nd Bundesliga. The final on the side horse was won by Ivan Rittschick (individual starter from Mittweida University) with 13.400, second place went to WG München with Manuel Neumeier (13.00). Alexander Winter from the University of Leipzig took 3rd place with 11.900. First-class performances were also shown on the rings. The German university champion on rings was Erik Mihan from the University of Potsdam (individual starter) with 12.150. Maximilian Henning from the University of Regensburg (individual starter) took second place (11.850). 3rd place went to Julian Hausch from the University of Tübingen (11.650). The title on vault went to second division gymnast Daniel Kehl from the WG Augsburg with a score of 13.175, second place went to Kilian Krapp from the WG Stuttgart with 13.125 and third place to Maximilian Lang (12.850) from the TH Aschaffenburg. In the bars final, Philipp Herder impressed with a score of 13.300, followed by Julian Hausch from the University of Tübingen with 12.900. Third place with 12.750 went to Marvin Rauprich, who represented WG Karlsruhe in front of his home crowd and normally competes in the 2nd Bundesliga for KTG Heidelberg. The last apparatus in the men's competition was the high bar, where first division gymnast Ivan Rittschick once again impressed with a score of 13.250. Gustav Kern (11.750), individual starter for BA Sachsen, claimed the title of runner-up, while Alexander Pfaffenroth from MH Hannover was delighted to take third place with a score of 11.700.
The women's final also saw performances at the highest level. As with the men, gymnasts from the highest German leagues were represented here, such as Finja Säfken, who competes in the 2nd Bundesliga and was a gymnast in the "Feuerwerk der Turnkunst". The title of German university champion on vault was won by Alessa Wirth from WG München with a score of 12.400. Finja Säfken (12.375), who competed as an individual for HU Berlin, was runner-up on vault. Corinna Seitz from the University of Frankfurt (Main) took third place with a score of 11.725. However, Alessa Wirth not only took home the vault title, but also the floor title with a score of 11.650. She was followed by Kathrin Scheck (11.550) from the University of Tübingen and Corinna Seitz (11.500) from the University of Frankfurt (Main). Anna Wienecke from WG Hannover won the uneven bars final with 10.950. Franziska Roeder took second place with 10.950. Marleen Leveringhaus, who secured third place for the home team WG Karlsruhe with 10.750, was a particular delight for the audience. German university champion on the beam was Corinna Seitz from the University of Frankfurt (Main) with 11.500. Maike Drechsler from WG Karlsruhe impressed the home crowd with a score of 11.150 and was able to claim the title of runner-up. She can also be seen in the 2nd Bundesliga. Third place went to Alessa Wirth (11.050) from WG München.
The apparatus finals marked the end of an exciting and high-caliber competition, which, as every year, provided plenty of excitement for spectators and athletes alike.
