Combining a sustainable lifestyle and sporting activity with environmental protection? This is precisely the aim of our GreenSTEPS project. The idea behind it is simple: to combine study, sport, nutrition and leisure in an environmentally friendly overall package that is fun and at the same time raises awareness of a greener lifestyle.
An important part of our project is the idea of taking sports activities into nature and combining them with environmental protection. As part of the Junkmile workshops, students are invited to actively contribute to caring for the environment while doing outdoor sports. This is done through plogging, a combination of jogging and garbage collection, which is extended to include the KIT's international hiking course. After sports, KIT's green spaces should also serve as outdoor learning areas and thus promote studying in harmony with nature and the environment. We want to achieve this by creating outdoor learning spaces at the Sports Institute. Another aspect of our project is the reuse of everyday objects in order to extend their lifespan. This also includes our HSP flea market, which gives well-preserved clothing and sports equipment a second life. Everything is run on a donation basis, so everyone has the opportunity to get useful items at a reasonable price. We will use the donations collected to support a responsible environmental organization. The project also promotes healthy and sustainable nutrition for students who are active in sports. In cooperation with the walk-in and KIT university groups, we want to organize a fitness & nutrition day. At this event, we will provide homemade, sustainable food and a healthy selection of drinks. This offers students the opportunity to combine their sporting activity with a conscious diet.
With "GreenSTEPS - every step counts!", KIT University Sports is setting an example for the combination of sport, a sustainable lifestyle and a responsible approach to the environment.
