Last Saturday (July 6), the universities of WG Munich, TU Berlin, WG Cologne, WG Göttingen, WG Tübingen and host Karlsruhe competed in the German Basketball University Championships.

After an exciting group phase and the subsequent knockout games, WG Munich was able to secure the title of German University Champion 2024. The group phase was already extremely evenly matched. The duels in the two groups were so close that it was basically only the basket ratio that decided who advanced and who was eliminated. WG Tübingen and TU Berlin had to bow out after the group stage.

In the semi-finals, WG Cologne prevailed against the hosts from KIT and TU Munich against WG Göttingen. The final was a very even game with many lead changes. A few minutes before the end, it looked as if Cologne would take home the victory, but then the Munich team turned up the heat again. With a strong run in the last minute and a half, this year's winners from WG Munich won 52:51 in the end.

The teams were very evenly matched and the games were all at eye level. In the end, WG München deserved to win and we wish them every success in a possible European University Championship."
