  • This year, the German University Championships (DHM) in badminton took place in the old capital Bonn from May 9 to 12. With the players Fabian Schlenga, Mathis Alt, Janis Machauer, Jakob Lenschen and Stefan Pfleging, the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) was able to represent both the entire time spectrum of typical studies as well as the entire performance spectrum present. As always, they arrived on Thursday to watch the Final Four of the team competition and although the WG Karlsruhe had not made it to the Final Four of the university teams this year for the first time in a long time, the journey was made without any worries, but already slightly rumpled from the Wednesday evening preparation.

Jakob, who was loudly supported by his teammates in the qualifying round and showed strong games, played the first games for the KIT. After a victory, he unfortunately still had to admit defeat in the decisive match to advance to the main round. The following first round matches of the other KIT representatives in the singles could be won without any danger, whereby care was also taken to ensure that the audience was sufficiently entertained.

After celebrating the reunion of the players from the other universities, the second round started at dawn on Friday. Mathis and Stefan were defeated here, while Fabian and Janis were able to secure a few more victories. Mathis and Janis were very successful in the men's doubles later in the day, only losing in the semi-finals and thus securing the first medal for Karlsruhe.

On Sunday, only Janis had to prove his skills one more time and, like last year, faced Lennart Notni in the final. Despite a great atmosphere and a strong effort on Janis' part, he unfortunately had to admit defeat to the dewy-eyed Lennart once again.

With a second and a third place and a lot of new memories that will not fade so quickly, the KIT can be satisfied with the result of this year's DHM and is looking forward to next year.
