adH-Open Floorball in Göttingen
After a long journey and some difficulties at the start, the game against Würzburg was taken in hand and the final score was 8:2.
The second game against the hosts Göttingen was more evenly matched, but here too a lead of 4 goals was achieved. Only a misunderstanding in the defense allowed the players from Göttingen to score a goal, making the final score 4:1 for Karlsruhe.
After a change of goalkeeper on the Karlsruhe side, the third game against bottom team Gießen began. Here, Karlsruhe were confident on the pitch and were able to take the lead with a quick goal from Wollny 1 second after the kick-off. The rest of the game was dominated by Karlsruhe and the final score was 9:1.
The last game of the day was also to be the most difficult. The experienced team from Kassel was Karlsruhe's last opponent of the day. However, Karlsruhe was also able to prevail here and so this exciting game ended 6:5 for the Karlsruhe team.
With 4 victories, the team from Karlsruhe was able to secure victory in the group without defeat.
The placement matches took place on Sunday and Karlsruhe's first opponent was Marburg. After a short night, however, Karlsruhe got into the game better and took a 2:0 lead through Landers and Rézi. After a penalty area offense on the Marburg side, Rézi was able to increase the lead to 3:0 with a penalty. However, Marburg conceded a goal due to carelessness on the Karlsruhe side. After further goals from Wollny and Rézi, the game ended 5:1 for Karlsruhe.
The second game of the day was again against the hosts Göttingen. The latter had their sights firmly set on winning the tournament and so it was a hard-fought game. A goal by Rézi gave Karlsruhe the lead. However, Göttingen were able to take advantage of a time penalty to draw level and so the score was 1:1 at the end of regulation time. Victory was secured by golden goal in overtime. Due to another time penalty on the Karlsruhe side, Göttingen had another overtime, but Rézi won the ball and in a counterattack Wollny was able to decide the game in Karlsruhe's favor after a cross-ice pass.
So they had to face Kassel again in the final. After a goal from Woll and a goal from Wollny in overtime, Karlsruhe took the lead. But the exhausting games before and the weakened squad were felt in the final and so Kassel were able to draw level at 2:2 with 2 goals in a row. Due to a distance offense, which the Kasslers took advantage of, Karlsruhe was again outnumbered and the Kasslers took the lead with 3:2. 3 minutes before the end, another goal by the Kasslers made it 4:2. Rézi was able to reduce the gap to 4:3, but the Kasslers kept the ball safely in their own half and were thus able to win the final with a final score of 4:3 and thus the tournament.
Karlsruhe thus achieved a successful 2nd place and were able to travel home satisfied.
We would especially like to thank the Göttingen sports department for the organization, accommodation and excellent catering! We had fun and are looking forward to the next floorball tournament!
