zum Beitrag | Link (adh)Preliminary report on the EUG
After the KIT basketball players narrowly failed to defend their title for the third time in a row in the final of the German University Championships, they will not take a well-deserved break but go directly to the European Championships in Poland. From 22.07. to 31.07. the academics from Karlsruhe will compete with the strongest universities in Europe. Serbia, Croatia, France, Lithuania ... all countries with a very high status when it comes to basketball.
How do you prepare for the EUSA Games?
For KIT basketball players, the preparation started right after the end of the season in the Barmer 2nd Basketball Bundesliga. Since some players from the ProB squad of KIT SC (College Wizards) also compete for the university team and are part of the unique project at KIT, the preparation has been relatively easy. Only Corona always makes your contribution and made a smooth training process difficult.
What (sporting) expectations do you have for the tournament? What are your sporting goals? How do you assess the competition? Are there any favorites?
For KIT basketball players it means to acclimatize as fast as possible in the first days and to adapt to the conditions. Since opposing teams cannot be scouted in any way, this has to happen on the spot. A good team climate and a strong will already exist. The fact that you don't travel to Poland as the favorite can also become an advantage. The chance and strength lie in the team, which definitely wants to get the maximum out of itself.
On the other hand, the whole KIT crew is looking forward to the huge event. With more than 5,000 participants in different sports and countries in Europe, it is certainly a highlight for everyone and will be remembered for a long time. We are sure that it will be a great experience and we are looking forward to it. On the field, we'll give it our all and fully implement our motto "Study hard and play harder".
Preliminary report on the EUG
How do you prepare for the EUSA-Games?
Our beach handball team was a bit lucky to get into the tournament. At the DHM Qualification Tournament, some of the key players were absent for various reasons, and in the end, two narrow defeats and a very convincing victory only resulted in third place in the qualification tournament. Nevertheless, the qualification for the EUSA Games could be secured.
What (sporting) expectations do you have for the tournament? What are your sporting goals?
Since the beginning of the semester we have been training once or twice a week, but the main focus is on having fun and less on the pressure to perform. Unfortunately, due to many private commitments, we will not be able to travel to the European Games with the strongest squad.
How do you assess the competition? Are there any favorites?
Also, the beach handball department is traveling to the European University Games for the first time, so we can't really estimate where we stand and how the level will be on site.
What are you looking forward to?
We hope to enjoy the tournament to the fullest and a place in the main round would be an absolute success. But most of all we hope to stay injury free and make some new friends.
Preliminary report on the EUG
How are you preparing for the EUSA Games?
The beach volleyball players Frank Kögel and Simon Angele have been preparing intensively for the European University Games (EUG) in Lodz for a few days.
How do you assess the competition? Are there any favorites? What are the expectations?
Besides the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, two other German universities are represented in Poland with one team each. The competition at this international event is traditionally much stronger than at the German University Championships, which is why the Karlsruhe team is hoping for a mid-table finish.
What are you particularly looking forward to?
For both players, the European Championships from July 16 to 20 are a completely new experience where they want to enjoy the atmosphere and the mood.
Preliminary report on the EUG
How are you preparing for the EUSA-Games?
We have been preparing for the tournament for over a month with regular training sessions and will also be holding a joint team evening.
What (sporting) expectations do you have for the tournament? What are your sporting goals?
We don't really have any sporting expectations, because we don't know exactly where we stand. Since we have a newly formed team and have only played the qualifying tournament so far. We want to sell ourselves as expensive as possible at the EUG.
How do you rate the competition? Are there any favorites?
It is very difficult to estimate how strong the competition is. But we assume that the level will be very good. We don't have a clear favorite, because we can't exactly assess the international competition, as we have never taken part in such an event. The national competition is always to be reckoned with, especially when you see the results of the Frankfurt women at the last European Championships and the Munich women, who won the national qualification. If these two teams bring a similar quality to the court as they did during the qualification in Karlsruhe, it can go a long way. However, we don't need to hide from anyone and would like to provide one or the other "surprise"!
What are you looking forward to most?
We are most looking forward to the event itself. It will be a unique event for all of us, with so many athletes in the same place at the same time! Most of us will not experience something like this again.

Preliminary report on the EUG
How do you prepare for the EUSA-Games?
The women's table tennis team of the University of Karlsruhe is preparing for the event by training in the competition course of the University of Karlsruhe and by training in the clubs. The intensity of the training has been increased in the last weeks before the event.
What (sporting) expectations do you have for the tournament? What are your sporting goals?
We hope for the best possible success. We will start with a 3rd Bundesliga player from the front pair and three regional league players from the back pair. Depending on the level of the international opponents, we are hoping for nice matches in both the singles and the team with hopefully the best possible end for us.
How do you assess the competition? Are there any favorites?
At the Euro Games in Coimbra, in which the women's table tennis team already took part, there were partly national players or extended national players from other countries at the start. The teams from Poland and Russia won the top places among themselves.
What are you particularly looking forward to?
We are really looking forward to the event, the opening ceremony and the competition on site. Many thanks to the ADH and the University of Karlsruhe for allowing us to participate in this event.
Special thanks go to the KIT Foundation, which helped us a lot in finding supporters and thus made the EUG project possible at all.
