As part of this year's 118th adh General Assembly and the 75th anniversary of the General German University Sports Association, KIT University Sports under the direction of Dr. Dietmar Blicker was awarded the title "University of the Year 2023" by the adh Executive Board.

On November 18, 2023, the outstanding work of university sports at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) in recent years was duly honored at the TUM campus in Munich's Olympic Park.

The achievements in the following areas were particularly highlighted

• - regular organization of adh competition events, most recently the adh-Open Floorball and the DHM Apparatus Gymnastics
• - Regularly sending athletes to national and international competitive sporting events with successful placings
• - "Partner university of elite sport" for 20 years
• - Regular participation in educational events and adh committee meetings
• - Development of innovative event formats for the social bonding of students
• - 2nd place in the IDUS 2023 competition
• - Active university in the areas of exercise-oriented health promotion
• - Successful project implementation as part of the "Bewegt studieren - Studieren bewegt! 2.0"

Professor Alexander Wanner was delighted to receive the adh's highest institutional honor: "At KIT, we know that our university sports department does outstanding work and fits in perfectly with our mission statement. But this special recognition from outside, from the professional perspective of the adh Executive Board, naturally makes us proud and happy. I would like to congratulate our Head of University Sports, Dr. Blicker, and his great team on this fantastic award!"

University Sports Director Dr. Dietmar Blicker added: "University sports in Karlsruhe has undergone rapid development since 2012. The courses on offer and the number of instructors alone have more than doubled in the last five years. We are also able to leave our mark in more than 20 external sports facilities in Karlsruhe and enjoy maximum utilization of our offerings. The "University of the Year" award is above all an award for the outstanding commitment of the more than 700 instructors, who have given us top positions in the adh's organizer and participation rankings for years and make university sports in Karlsruhe so attractive and popular."
