You want to get to know the Black Forest, enjoy hiking in a small group, even in winter, and want to get to know other international students at KIT? Then you've come to the right place!

This course is aimed at all international students and members of the International Buddy Program as well as all international students of the KIT Faculty of Chemical Engineering and Process Engineering.

Introduction

What can you expect in this sports course, what equipment do you need and where exactly are we actually going hiking?

This introductory event deals with these 3 questions, among others.

In the introductory event you can decide whether you want to participate in the workshop and the hikes. The booking is made via a password. You will receive the password at the introductory event.

The introductory event is a prerequisite for the workshop and the 3 hikes.

If you are not yet a Buddy, you must first register as a Buddy. However, this is quick and does not involve any obligations. Then you can sign up for the introduction.

Workshop BlackForest - that's why you have to visit it!

This interactive workshop will bring you closer to the Black Forest. Among other things, it deals with traditions - typical dishes, goods and costumes, etc. - flora and fauna, the climate and the history of tourism. The workshop is a cultural addition to the three hikes in the Black Forest.

3 hikes in the Black Forest

Three 8 to 10 km long day hikes are planned, so we will be on the road for about 3 to 4 hours (+ return trip). Depending on the possibility and mood, we can also stop for refreshments on the way or at the end of a hike, and depending on the weather, a hike may be a little shorter or a little longer. In very bad weather, a hike may be canceled altogether. In this case there will be an alternative date. We can get to the start of each tour by bus and train and with the semester ticket; an additional ticket may have to be purchased for a few euros. The tour starts between 8.30 and 9.30 am.

You will need the following equipment for the hikes: Well-worn, ankle-high hiking boots with a good tread and rain protection. More information is available at the introductory event.

Final note on the organization of the hikes:

I will create a WhatsApp group for the hiking course. A few days before each hike, I will send a message to the group and post all the information about the tour (departure time and location, route length and difficulty level). You can find out more in the welcome email at the beginning of the semester.
