KIT as the best team at the DHM Rennrad

  • Datum: 15.09.2023
  • This year's DHM road bike championship took place on September 10. The race was held as part of the national league race "Rund um Sebnitz". There were 12 laps for the women and 20 laps for the men on a selective 6.5 km circuit with 100 meters of elevation gain.

A motivated group of nine from the KIT came together to take on this challenge. Due to the long journey, they arrived on Friday so that there was enough time the day before the race to ride the course a few times and identify potential danger spots. They also practiced passing bottles to each other.

On Sunday morning, the event started at 10 a.m. with the women's race. Anja Kricheldorf and Vanessa Weiß started for the KIT. It was already getting hotter towards the end, but the handing over of the bottles worked perfectly. By the time the men's race started, it was over 30°C and the asphalt had heated up considerably, which made the race even more difficult. Adrian Kröger, Björn Ortjohann, Constantin Wehrbach, Jakob Schrimpf, Lutz Wellensiek, Moritz Treue and Tobias Lenk entered the heat battle, in which all riders had to fight noticeably.

Although they were no match for the professional cycling teams such as Lotto Kern-Haus, they all gave their best, which meant that in the end they won the award for best team in the university classification! In addition, everyone was able to gain a lot of new experience and had a great weekend with the team. They will be back for the next DHM!
