DHM table tennis

  • On Thursday 11.11. (note the beginning of carnival :) ) the DHM preliminary round in table tennis took place in Karlsruhe. The teams from Mainz and Heidelberg as well as our team from KIT faced each other. At about 14.30 o'clock the first match KIT Karlsruhe against Heidelberg started. The doubles Kathrin/Luis managed to win the first set. However, the doubles from Heidelberg adjusted better and better to the playing system of the two, so that the doubles finally lost 1:3. Chantal and Henry lost against the one-double unfortunately with 0:3. Henry finally succeeded against the number 4 of the guest team the first point. Super game! After that, Kathrin played a very good match against the number 1 of Heidelberg (Michael Pfeiffer), who had also studied in Karlsruhe for 3 years and had already played for the Kit, and won 3:1.

Unfortunately, Chantal then lost her second singles match, although she was able to set nice accents again and again. The match thus ends 2:6, whereby the 2 victories were not necessarily expected. It was therefore a good performance by our team! In the second match, Mainz beat Heidelberg 6:3.

In the third game Karlsruhe against Mainz Luis was replaced by Yannis, because he had another appointment.

The match against Mainz ended 1:6, with the doubles Kathrin/Henry scoring the honorary point. In the five singles the players* could win single sets or make it exciting. Unfortunately, it was not enough to win another point. Mainz finally won the preliminary group ahead of Heidelberg, Karlsruhe was third.

All in all, the KIT players were satisfied, because the opponents had much higher TTR values (comparative value in table tennis) and were therefore much stronger. Unfortunately, the team from Karlsruhe was missing some stronger players, so that not more was possible. Nevertheless, it was a great event and we all had a lot of fun!

Many thanks also to the university sports department, which made it possible for us to organize the preliminary round and took care of a lot of organizational matters in the background. Thank you!
