After triple executionüThis was only the first time that a Grey Seals team had to make the long journey to the east of Germany to compete against the best university teams in Germany.
After arriving on Friday afternoon, the group matches took place throughout the day.üday on Saturday. The teams were divided into two groups of 5. The Grey Seals won the first game 4:0 against the students of the ZHS MüMunichüM ü nchen students. In addition to Schwuchow's two goals, the team also scoredßyoung star Sven Löwe and oldie Jonas Seifert also scored. In the following game against inferior Tübinger, every Grey Seal was allowed to put his name in the goalützenliste. The game was decided 18:2 in favor of Karlsruhe.
The third game was predicted to be the top game. The Karlsruhe Grey Seals had to play against the 2nd team from RWTH Aachen. This quickly turned out to be the strongest team.ästronger of the two Aachen teams. Unfortunately, nothing went right in this match. The swimmingüAachen, who were superior in terms of swimming, made the most of their chances. In addition, there was an inexplicableäThe Grey Seals also made an inexplicable number of bad passes, which is why they lost the game 10:1. Benedikt Schwuchow scored the consolation goal shortly before the end.
On the evening of the group match day, the Grey Seals were up against the hosts Leipzig 1. The Leipzig team, who were inferior in terms of swimming, were unable to put up much of a fight against the Grey Seals. Therefore, an average performance was enough for a 7:2 success. Tobias Menking and Maximilian Nekola were successful with two goals each. This resulted in a second place in the group for the Grey Seals behind tournament favorites Aachen 2.
After a short night forüfor all the students, it was time forüagainst the TU Göttingen for a place in the semi-finals, in which the top two teams in the group were already seeded. Thanks to another very strong defensive performance and well executed counter-attacks, the Grey Seals were able to assert themselves with a 7:2 victory and thus advanced to the semi-finals. Scoring in this game were: Lukas Fregien, Lars Löwe, Sven Löwe, Julia Henschel, Moritz Jutzi (2) and Matthias Söthe.
The Grey Seals again played the semi-final against the favorites Aachen 2, but this time the team did not want to be defeated as they had been in the preliminary round. The first well executedÜof the game, Lars Löwe was able to score successfully and thus ensuredüthe 1:0 leadü0 lead in this game. Unfortunately, Aachen came back into the game and pulled away to 1:4 by half-time. A second goal from Julia Henschel made them forget the humiliation of the preliminary round, but they still lost the game 2:9. The Grey Seals now played in the match for 3rd place against the 1st team from Aachen, who had won the semi-final against TU Dortmund.ühad drawn the short straw.
The match for 3rd place was unbelievably exciting.ütense. It went back and forth, blow after blow. From time to time, the Aacheners were able to show off their swimming skills.äand successfully counter-attack. Karlsruhe improved their build-up play and scoredüscored through well-played movesümovesöfter. At half-time, the score was 2:2 and the Grey Seals pulled away to 6:4 after the break until 2 minutes before the end. Unfortunately, this lead could not beübe saved over time. Simple ball losses invited Aachen to counterattack, which they exploited with ice-cold precision. As a result, only the ungrateful 4th place remained forüfor the Karlsruhe Grey Seals.
Despite all this, the Grey Seals returned home with their heads held high.
