KIT judoka wins bronze at EUC
Philip Müller from KIT was allowed to represent the German team in the -73 kilogram weight class. The decisive factor for his nomination was his title win as German university champion in 2013 and his runner-up finish in 2015.
Philip won his opening fight against an Italian athlete early with a foot sweep. In the quarter-finals, he had to prove himself against a Slovenian judoka. The sports student from Karlsruhe also won this fight ahead of time with a holding technique on the ground. In the semi-final, he then faced the internationally very experienced and eventual winner from the Czech Republic. Unfortunately, Philip was unable to implement a winning technique in the hard-fought semi-final. He lost the fight by the narrowest of margins due to a passivity penalty. He also faced an athlete from the Czech Republic in the bronze medal match. However, the Karlsruhe student kept the upper hand in this encounter and was able to catapult his opponent onto his back after just two minutes with an inner thigh throw.
Philip therefore took a satisfactory 3rd place at the 2015 European Student Championships.
