KIT Women's Soccer Team at DHM
In the past years, it was no longer possible to provide a team. But for the DHM 2014 the Karlsruher Hochschulsport could be sent again an ambitious team (from players of surrounding Karlsruhe clubs) of the WG Karlsruhe in a large field round into the race.
With a team weakened by short-term illness-related cancellations in the run-up, the WG Karlsruhe nevertheless set off confidently with a good squad on Friday, June 13, to the DHM in Jena. The team of coach Carolin Braun consisted of Lena Trentl, Mona Köstel (both ASV Hagsfeld, Oberliga), Selina Adam, Sandra Ott (both KSC), Lara Lingelbach (former KSC), Nadine Weiß (FV Niefern, champion Verbandsliga), Debora DiTullio (SG FC Germ. Forst/FV Graben, Landesliga), and a total of 8 players from KIT SC, which plays in the Landesliga (Sarah Becker, Kerstin Rafai, Eva Maria Walz, Barbara Wurster, Nadine Hornung, Ariane Höck, Lena Salfenmoser and Carolin Braun).
In the first match on Saturday, the Karlsruhe girls faced Mainz, who finished 2nd at the DHM last year. Against a team from Mainz that was peppered with players from the upper league, the girls from the fan city presented themselves with very good fighting and playful approaches and had good chances to take the lead. However, due to a carelessness in the opening of the game, Mainz scored the somewhat undeserved 1:0. Even after the 2:0 after a corner, the players of WG Karlsruhe did not give up and scored the 2:1 through Barbara Wurster after a great pass into the depth. Despite a strong fight until the last minute, the game was lost 2-1.
In the second game against Freiburg, the team had set their sights high after the opening defeat and dominated the game for long stretches. Again, it was a surprising and quite unfortunate goal of the Freiburg girls, which heralded the defeat. In the end, the Freiburg girls won 2:0 with a penalty goal. Due to the few scoring chances of WG Karlsruhe, however, it was ultimately not an undeserved victory for WG Freiburg.
Also in the last match of the day the knot did not want to burst and they had to be satisfied with a 0:0 against the fighting Nuremberg girls.
The next morning the last match of the DHM was on the schedule for the WG Karlsruhe. They had to win against the team from Heidelberg in order to start the four-hour trip home with a positive experience. With a clear 5:0 victory this succeeded in the end. The goals were scored by Sandra Ott (3), Lara Lingelbach and Lena Salfenmoser.
After 2 defeats, 1 draw and 1 win, they ended up in an unfortunate 8th place. Nevertheless, they showed in the games the potential that the team has carried in itself and drew positive attention to themselves. Also in the next year it should succeed again to send a high performance troop to the DHM.
